What is Net Neutrality?
You must be reading a lot about Net Neutrality in India now a days. In simple terms, Net Neutrality is the Freedom to use internet the way we want. According to Wikipedia:
"Net Neutrality is the principal that ISP (Internet Service Providers) and Government should treat all data on internet equally not discriminating or charging differentially by user, content, site, platform, application, type of attached equipment, or mode of communication."
What if we don't Fight for Net Neutrality?First give the answer of this question, Will you pay extra 50 Rs. to read this article or to access this or any other website? The answer will be 'No', nobody wants to pay extra money to visit a website. You just pay your ISP for internet access and then you get same speed for all the websites you want to access. This is because of net neutrality.
If we didn't had net neutrality then the big companies, say Amazon, can pay your ISP to give high speed access to their site and slow down other websites like Flipkart or Snapdeal & the speed will be so slow that you won't be able to open those website (unless you pay your ISP to get access to your favorite website for higher speed) which will eventually lead to higher sales and visits on Amazon because it loads faster.
Not only that, but all other websites that can't pay the ISPs (like this website or your own website) for increased speed will be slowed down and you won't be able to access them unless you pay extra money. This is why Net Neutrality is important for each and every person.
